After four years creating dissonant, loud, confrontational music from shredded sample manipulation in unconventional software, "Melodic Hugs" was a 2001 experiment to explore the elements of "pop": arpeggios and melodies, immediately recognizable drum machines, playful hypnotic patterns, all punctuated witch abstract ambient freestyle compositions that travel from tender to shrill.

It eschewed the dark and doomed sound, the occasional guttural manipulated lyrics, the explicit commentary on homophobia, abuse, mass media manipulation, and the police and military industrial complexes that prior releases were built upon and asked the question:

What might people feel if I give them something sweet?

A first step towards tender, Melodic Hugs was an experiment in taking gentle frequencies, playful arpeggiations, yawning ambience, cute crushed chiptunes, and the most recognizable, trite conventions and sounds of the day (particularly the TR-808 cowbell) to try and find a love for them, or my voice in them, while treating them with a comparatively minimalist hyper-focus rather than the maximalist decimation of previous records.

at times sweet and somber, energetic and untamed at others.

the recording of these songs happened during the period of "Digital Raindr0pz" and were initially intended to be a part of the same release, during that time the two began as distinct approaches, and became this.
